Inclusion & Diversity

JewishCare NSW is guided by a commitment to the principles of cultural diversity, gender equality and ethical conduct in the way we work and relate to each other. As part of this commitment, we strive to a high standard of care and to be a place of inclusion for all people.

Three diverse people showing inclusion

JewishCare’s commitment to this means we need a culture and environment that embraces, respects and rejoices the rich and colourful diversity of our community.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ) people have the same right to access services as anyone else within the community. However, not everyone understands or responds well to the needs of LGBTIQ people. Experiences of exclusion and discrimination contributes directly to poorer health outcomes and wellbeing. To address this disparity, JewishCare looks to provide support for Jewish LGBTIQ community members, foster relationships with LGBTIQ service providers and organisations, and actively engage in initiatives that support and empower LGBTIQ people.

What we are doing towards this

Pride in Health + Wellbeing

As of 2021, we are proud members of Pride in Health + Wellbeing (PIHW). PIHW is a national membership program that provides year-round personalised support to organisations within the Health, Wellbeing and Humans Services sector to improve their LGBTIQ inclusive care, remove systematic barriers to accessing care and thereby reduce health disparities faced by LGBTIQ communities.

JewishCare Pride Health + Wellbeing Bronze Award for Most Improved

LGBTQ Inclusivity

JewishCare has received bronze level recognition for our commitment to LGBTQ inclusive service. This award is measured against the health and wellbeing equity index (HWEI), the national benchmarking instrument for LGBTQ inclusive service provision in Australia. To be awarded this level of recognition, JewishCare provided evidence of real, practical ways we are LGBTQ inclusive across our range of services. We are working towards silver level recognition in 2024.

The Welcome Here Project

JewishCare is a registered safe place with The Welcome Here Project . The project supports businesses and services throughout Australia to create and promote environments that are visibly welcoming and inclusive of LGBTIQ communities. We display the Welcome Here rainbow stickers and charter to let everyone know that LGBTIQ diversity is welcomed and celebrated within JewishCare.
