Have Your Assessment

If your application is successful, you will be referred for an assessment. Assessments are done in person, in the comfort of your own home.

What Our Clients Say

  • I am incredibly thankful for the support I have received from JewishCare over the past 8 years.

My Care Manager, Irina Stepanova, has helped me with everything I need. No matter the time, and no matter the issue I am facing.

My support workers have helped me with shopping, transport, and cooking, all of which I can no longer do on my own.

    Maria Agaroskina

  • I wanted to say how much I appreciate the respite service I receive and how important it is to our lives.

Without JewishCare’s help in caring for my husband Ivan, I could not go to work or attend medical appointments each week.

It’s also a great social time for Ivan, particularly when he is able to attend the Synagogue with his carer.

    Jeskara Gordon

  • After having several falls, my family decided it would be prudent of me to have a personal alarm system in case of an emergency as I live alone and I am 83 years old. I have had multiple joint replacements and my balance is wanting. I did not know where to start and found that the information on several of the appropriate websites did not facilitate a decision.

I rang JewishCare and was connected to Rolene Nehama, your occupational therapist. She very kindly gave me her time and knowledge, and even introduced me by referral to arrange a fall and personal alarm watch which was exactly what I needed. Thank you JewishCare.

  • On behalf of my mother, I would like to thank you for all the assistance Jewish Care provides.

Your organisation gave me a hand at a very difficult time for me.

Our very small family greatly appreciated what JewishCare has done and is doing for Mum.

She was a child of the Holocaust. She was only 7 years old but remembers so clearly what was going on at that time.  Even now, while she is suffering from mild Dementia, she sometimes talks about it.

Thank you all for the great job and assistance you provide.

  • I don’t know what we would do without JewishCare. They are so caring and efficient as well as being flexible.

    Stella Wolfgang’s daughter Maryla

  • JewishCare sent a lovely occupational therapist who has made my house safe. Weekly visits from JewishCare’s home support staff enable me to stay here.

    Livia Erdos

  • In 1950 JewishCare helped me to migrate to Australia and gave me the opportunity to have a great life here. Then 5 years ago when my wife died JewishCare was there again for me. You never know when you may need help and I am very thankful to JewishCare.

    Jacob Binstok

  • As our needs have increased so has JewishCare’s help. Without JewishCare’s wonderful caring staff we would be in a home for the aged for sure.

    Charles Solomon

  • As I can’t go out by myself, I am so appreciative of JewishCare’s staff who help me to appointments and especially the Russian speaking worker who takes me to the beach or the park each week. That is so important to me.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply for an aged care home care package?

You must first be assessed to apply for an aged care home care package. You can apply for an assessment online or you can call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422. The online application is quick and easy but if you prefer, their aged care assessment team can talk with you about your needs and circumstances and make the application for you.

The My Aged Care staff are trained to talk to people in a range of situations and are ready to answer your questions to help find the best options for you..

How is the level of care determined for the home care package?

The level of government-funded care you are eligible for is determined during your assessment process and is based on your unique care needs.

Is there any financial assistance or government funding to help cover the costs?

While the Australian Government subsidises a high portion of residential aged care costs, you may be required to contribute towards the cost of your care depending on your own income and assets. Fees and charges levied by residential aged care providers including JewishCare are government-regulated and vary depending on factors including whether you receive an aged pension or are a self-funded retiree.

Access to your Aged Care Package is determined by Services Australia within Centrelink. They will determine whether you need to pay an income-tested fee and if so, how much this will be. For eligible holocaust survivors, home support under the Claims Conference is free.

At JewishCare, we have an Aged Care Navigator to help you every step of the way.

How often will my care needs be reassessed, and can my package be adjusted if my needs change?

If you’ve had an assessment in the past, there may come a time when you need to be reassessed. It is common that your care needs will change over time, and your package can be adjusted accordingly. If you are in this situation, you can speak to us and we will review your care plan to see what else we can do to support you. If you require a new assessment, we will contact your My Aged Care assessor to organise this.

What happens if I need additional services beyond what is covered in the package?

You can discuss this with your care manager and make adjustments to existing services that may no longer be needed or are now a priority. Some people choose to pay privately for additional services. If you are on a level 1, 2, or 3 package, then your care manager can update your care plan and make an application to My Aged Care for a review of your package level. This might also include the provision of temporary codes of services that can be provided under the Commonwealth Home Support Program.

Are there waiting times for an approved aged care home care package?

Packages are allocated fairly through the national priority system, based on date of approval and priority for care. You are placed in the system from the date stated on your approval letter. For people with a medium priority, the expected wait time for an approved Home Care Package (starting from the date on the letter of approval) is less than 1 month for a Level 1 package, 3 – 6 months for a Level 2 package, 6 – 9 months for a Level 3 package and 1 – 3 months for a Level 4 package.
