Home Care Packages vary based on your care needs, from basic support to high care support. Level 1 packages are designed for people with basic support requirements.

Meet the Age Requirement

To be eligible for a Home Care Package, you must be 65 years or older. If you’re an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, you must be 50 years or older.

One

Check Your Eligibility and Apply

The first step in accessing government-funded aged care services is to check your eligibility. This can be done online on the My Aged Care website or by calling their centre staff on 1800 200 422.

Have Your Assessment

If your application is successful, you will be referred for an assessment. Assessments are done in person, in the comfort of your own home.

Three

Find Out Your Assessment Outcome

After your assessment, you will find out if you’re eligible for government-funded services and which ones you’re eligible for.

Services Covered under Level 1 Home Care Package

With a Level 1 Package, you can access $10,217.10 per year in your home care package funding, which is allocated to pay for the home care services you need.

Who qualifies for a Level 1 package?

To know if you qualify for a Level 1 package, you must first be assessed. You can apply for an assessment online or you can call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422. The online application is quick and easy but if you prefer, their aged care assessment team can talk with you about your needs and circumstances and make the application for you. 

A Level 1 home care package might be right for you if you need a basic level of support in maintaining your independence and quality of life while ageing safely in your home.

What services can I get with a Level 1 package?

Common in-home care services include personal care (basic assistance with showering, dressing, etc.), domestic support (light cleaning, laundry), social support (companionship, outings), transport assistance, and help with managing medications.

How do I choose providers?

Before diving into provider searches, define your specific needs. Whether it’s personal care, home help, or social support, pinpointing your priorities equips you to choose providers offering targeted Level 1 services. Explore provider websites, scour online reviews, and tap into your network for recommendations—valuable intel before making your decision. 

Will I feel isolated or lonely?

Social support services within Level 1 packages can help combat isolation and connect you with your community. Don’t hesitate to discuss your social needs with your case manager.

Is it enough support for my needs?

Level 1 packages are designed for individuals with basic needs. If you require more extensive support, a higher package level might be more suitable.
